FALLING INTERRUPTED

The VisArts Gibbs Street Gallery in Rockville, Maryland is pleased to present a solo exhibition of sculpture by artist Jon Rajkovich. Opening Reception and Artist Talk: Friday, September 8, 7 – 9 PM. The show will continue through October 8, 2017

Jon Rajkovich’s sculptures take a contradictory position. His materials and processes provide fresh and surprising visual journeys that lead toward and away from possible narratives. The sculptures are like “something” but what that “thing” is remains elusive. Funny and sophisticated, crude and elegant, straightforward and disguised, they reflect a world unresolved and complex. “Perhaps,” he says, they are “a response to the fact that much of our contemporary culture is built on artifice. Romantic exaggerations and neurotic deceptions seem commonplace. Posture is important on the street and becomes so in the forms within my work.” For Rajkovich, it seems necessary, that to navigate this culture and to create work, he must locate a verisimilitude.
